Love Is
By Akiko Bloom

It was probably their sixth time straight and first time doing it missionary style when Kaoru Kirishima finally fainted from exhaustion and pleasure overload. His body shut down all on its own; he wasn’t even aware of it happening let alone warn his lover, Daigo, who seemed more like a crazed animal in bed than usual that night.

It was a welcome exhaustion. In his repose, he dreamt.

Kaoru was strange in a way that he was oversensitive to certain things. His cousin, Chiharu, would attest to that. For example, he could never fall asleep with anybody in bed with him, so he always left the bed or kicked out that night’s partner after they had sex. It could safely be said that sleeping with Kaoru Kirishima never involved sleep.

For Kaoru, sleep meant two things: vulnerability, and dreams.

“Kaoru!”

He hated dreaming. He always dreamt of the same thing.

“Kaoru! It’s OK!”

He always dreamt of when he was a child, crying and pitiful, his hatred brewing while his wish to be loved still brimming. In the end the wish all but dried up and left him in a shell.

“Don’t worry. We’re OK now.”

In this dream, the child was smiling, reassuring him.

“We’re OK now.”

It was so eerie it disconcerted him…

…and shocked him into wakefulness.

Kaoru woke up with tears streaming down his cheeks.

He loathed being so vulnerable. He could imagine his face blotchy, undignified, pitiful, and weak.

“Kaoru, you’re awake!” His lover’s frantic voice broke through his senses. “I was so worried! You just fainted -!”

It wasn’t the first time that he woke up crying, but it was the first time that someone was with him to see it.

He quickly covered his face with his arms and turned away from Daigo’s worried eyes, pressing his face into the pillow. “Don’t look at me!”

He heard a sigh from behind him, and felt a warm hand on his head.

It was comforting and caring, those beloved fingers through his hair.

It wasn’t just comforting and caring. It was indulgent and pampering. It was…loving.

More tears slid down to his pillow, but he was also smiling. Yes, we’re OK now.

He could sleep peacefully with Daigo beside him. He could dream and wake with Daigo at his side. He could cry and look undignified, his features could be twisted in jealousy, his calm demeanor broken by violence, but through all this, in Daigo’s eyes, he was beautiful.

You’re in love with me, right? Kaoru, do you love me?

I do love you, Daigo. One day I will be able to say it as often as you want to hear it, he thought. One day I’ll be able to tell you…everything.

AN: “Virgin Love” is the first manga I’ve read by Fujisaki Kou and it’s one of my top favorites (sharing the spot are other Daigo/Kaoru manga). I love Kaoru and Daigo because they have the most interesting backgrounds and like the fangirl I am, I can’t resist gorgeous men in bed together! LOL! And this manga is quite special to me because during the time I read it, I was pretty much convinced that I was really a lesbian after all, but when I saw these two characters I just…let’s just say my reaction wasn’t giggly-squealy (how I usually react when I look at a handsome/pretty/beautiful man). So there. Wah! I talk too much!

Thanks for reading! ^_^v
